Comments about DXG DXG DXG-569V 5.0MP Digital Camcorder:

This camcoder is not for everyone and I want to make that very clear from the beginning. Video/picture in low light conditions is not the best and will be poor choice for shooting indoors.
But where it outperforms its rivals in the same price range is shooting videos outdoors, especially, when traveling light and can't (or might not want to) carry expensive equipment.
I have DSLR and expensive camcorder, but in a lot of cases I choose to take with me this DXG instead, because of its compact size.

It works well on tripod outdoors. It takes pictures that are OK for personal use and a lot better compared to iPhone 3G. It worked OK for me when I mounted it on my bike and recorded action videos in SD. With 2200mAh rechargeable batteries you can get over hour and a half of footage.

That being said, do not buy it if you are planning on using it as a main camcorder or camera.
If you need something relatively inexpensive, versatile, simple to use this DXG might be for you.

This camera is hard to use, we taped my daughters christmas play but when we got home only part of it was recorded, we lost the rest when we tried to take still pics also with it. The part we recorded wont come out of fast forward mode so it cant be watched and the still pics are terrible if you or your subject moves(and when are kids ever still) the pics come out blurry. Spend a little more and get the features needed when your trying to get special moments on tape!

For the price(on sale [$] at the time)I wasn't expecting high quality sound or picture. If that is what your truly in need or desire than I would suggest on of those camrea's of the price range of $4000 and up.Battery life is a pain, maybe ten minutes of continual use. A optional power cord would have been prefered. But remember that the camera uses AAA batteries which no do take up much space to carry extras. This is perfect for me since I just wanted a small compact camcorder that I can take with me and shoot video whenever I see something of interest. This camera is good for someone who is not an enthusiat or pro. This camrea is not perfect, but for my need's it just what I wanted, but definately not for everyone.

My digital camera takes better video, and is easier to use and download. No matter what I try, I can not access the videos anywhere but the screen. I was smart enough to buy additional SDHC memory card, but I will also have to buy a special card reader (though I won't be 'cause I tried it on a friends, and the videos were not viewable. Hopefully Radio Shack will take it back. I'll invest a bit more money for a better unit.

Okay...this is the absolute worst camcorder/camera I've ever used. When in picture mode if you want your hand to be comfortable while hitting the button chances are your hand will be covering the flash assuming you turn the flash on. The construction is worse then the toy camcorder that my daughter has. Picture quality and video quality are extremely poor. I mean, I guess for the price you really shouldn't expect too much but definately more then what you get. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT purchase this product. I wish I had read reviews before I did!!!

Comments about DXG DXG DXG-569V 5.0MP Digital Camcorder:

Warning, this goes long because I like the box a lot, but it does have some gotchas. I do a lot of documention for my work in CG programming and digital audio, so I'm trying to write something actually useful for people like me, who are not even Semi-Pro, but still are handy and tech-minded.

I have only had my DXG-569V for a short while but I am already using it _a lot_ to document the million settings in my my studio for mixdowns, also the contents of my storage shed. I had been using my excellent Hi-8 for this purpose, but it's analog. I've just started to think of ways to use the "new guy" for other types of documentation -- renovation work on your home, for instance, or video letters. I'll say one thing for sure, given the price, it has already paid for itself, for me.

Good things about it: screen looks good, it's small and lightweight, feels good in the hand (once you don't have to squint at the button labels), good feature set for the price.

Not so good:
#1 (tho' not a problem for me) battery life -- since this seems to be the #1 complaint about it, I'll just say that anyone who uses a device of _any_ kind that is meant to be highly portable, and does this without keeping extra non-chargeable AND rechargeable batteries around, is not using their head. Anyone who uses a 4-meter hand-held radio when out camping/adventuring will know just what I mean. The rechargeable batteries that come with it, are Ni-Cads. Just run right out and replace them with NiMHs, and if you don't have a SMART recharger, get one. EVERYONE should have one, IMO. And remember, weight of a device, number and size of batteries, and usage time on a single charge, all correlate.
#2 The manual is scatty. For instance, it DOES warn you that with the battery/charger that comes with, it can burn out the batteries if you don't remove them as soon as charge indicates 'complete', it doesn't tell you how long a charge takes. Do they excpect people do keep an eagle eye on the charger? (I did while writing this - 1 hour/pair) Also it doesn't tell you, if you put in four (2 pairs of 2) do they all charge at the same time? (They don't, charger handles one pair at a time). The manual has a good TOC, but no index. Procedural directions are super repetitious, which makes someone like me dislike reading them, but they contain useful info.
#3 The sound is definitely not great, but adequate for narrating over one's own recording, also for nearby voices. Forget it for recording music. I wish it had a mini-jack for an audio direct into the camera, but there again, it would add weight.
#4 You can't plug the camera right into the wall and run off AC. Again, not only would this add weight, but change the certification process, making it more expensive. An alternative would be a DC jack, but that too would add to production expense.

Comments about DXG DXG DXG-569V 5.0MP Digital Camcorder:

I got this camera in June and I went on a cruise with it when it was brand new. Most of the pictures came out blurry, with very bad quality. I had to re-take the pictures to get better ones, which was extremely annoying. Also, the battery life is horrible. I tried using the rechargable batteries. Not good. I gave up on those rechargable ones and used regular ones, no difference. The batteries lasted a maximum of 10 minutes in one use. I couldn't even take a video without it shutting down on me because the batteries died. It was very, very frustrating. The quality of the sound when taking a video is just as bad. You cannot hear the sound great at all when playing back a video. Unless you talk right into the microphone, you will not hear much sound when you playback the video. On the plus side, I like the design of the camera (the screen design, when you twist and fold the screen). It is very convienient for taking pictures and videos. However, I would never purchase this camera ever again. I wish I could get my money back for it and buy a different one.

Comments about DXG DXG DXG-569V 5.0MP Digital Camcorder:

This is a great device, and small enough to carry in
a pocket. It has the feeling of being very flimsy, so I am always afraid of dropping it. The sound volume has some kind of auto volume control, so it
adds noise in a low sound environment. It can be choppy with movement, though I have not tracked alot of very fast video. It provides a great picture, with easy software for editing. Standard batteries seem more reliable and longer lasting than the rechargable, so I usually carry both.

This is a great camera, I was surprised to find out that it came with recharger + batteries. Be warned that the mic is at the very top, so it mostly records you talking than subjects. The .mov format is odd, lucky it comes w/software to stitch up a movie and transcode the .mov onto other formats. Comes w/pouch, and battery life was dicent. I bought it to shoot my brother's wedding, I shot it at 720, should it shot it higher, but overall I'm pretty happy w/my purchase. SDHC cards work, and you can use up 8Gig cards.

The display is crisp and clear. Long battery life. Zoom is smooth and study. Professional DVD quality at a hobby price.

Comments about DXG DXG DXG-569V 5.0MP Digital Camcorder:

A nifty little camera that delivers - if you have good lighting conditions. Dark locations, low light indoor videos will guarantee more-than-you-will-want noise. Shooting stills is quite nice. It does get into some trouble taking photos of moving objects.

The DXG-569v would have been EXCELLENT/ALMOST PERFECT if:

1) it uses AA batteries. (It uses AAA and the best AAA batteries can only give you 1000mah. You can get us high as 2900mah from AA batteries)

2) it shoots 60fps.

3) it shoots at 1080p.

4) It has optical zoom

5) This one really caught my eye: The Tripod jack's treads are PLASTIC! It should have been metal! It's a no-brainer that the treads will be damaged pretty fast if you always use a tripod.

Comments about DXG DXG DXG-569V 5.0MP Digital Camcorder:

Don't get me wrong, it's super easy to use and definitely super-cheap. But just because something says it's "high definition" doesn't mean it is. I shot an ISO 12233 with this camera in full 1280x720 mode only to discover that the actual resolution is about 250x250 in both macro and normal focus modes. An old 8mm video camera will actually provide a cleaner image.

Low light sensitivity is nonexistant, sound quality is acceptible but not great. Even in strong light, the image is blocky and jerky. Image is harsh and very obviously artificially sharpened. If you just want some cheep, easy-to-use thing to put cute little video clips on your website, this will do. But don't waste your time using the "HD" mode, leave it in SD, you won't miss any detail at all. But Radio Shack sells better stuff for the job than this camera for similar price. For the record, I have never used an "HD" camera that cost less than $4,000 that was any sharper than a good SD camera.
