Pros:
Fun for the first time
Cons:
Bad in wind, Difficult to Control, Flimsy, Poor Construction, Slow
Best Uses:
Calm conditions
Describe Yourself:
College Junior
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

Bad to fly in windy conditions. The first three or four times on a nice calm day were great, but a gust of wind took it and it crashed easily. Once it broke I clued it back together multiple times but it always came out unballanced (fyi- which is bad for a plane)and after that it is rendured usless. I suggest the new transformer F-22 version.

Fun, but cheap
By AFA13 from NC on 5/6/2008
Cons:
Difficult to Control, Short Range
Best Uses:
Outdoors
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

I took it out with a couple friends on a soccer field. It was a windy day. We had some control issues, particularly with trim on the banking axis, but it still was fun to fly. Range and battery life is short, but it is inexpensive. We were able to perform Immelmans, controlled stalls, etc. The plane got caught in the wind a lot, and did not have much control; I would recommend a day with less wind. However, the plane was still controllable. As far as durability, we had no problems; we flew it into a tree and had several hard landings, but it still flew like new. You may need more space and/or control.

Amazing flyer, it's a slow flyer, but very acrobatic after it's up about 20-30 ft. easy to fix with a little super glue and some scotch tap, amazingly after running into a bird this plane recovered and landed with minor damage.
ya I recomend this for first timers and colectors of park flyers.

Fun RC flyer with good practice
By Aaron from Charlotte, NC on 1/20/2008
Pros:
Engaging
Cons:
Flimsy
Best Uses:
Teens
Describe Yourself:
Education Oriented
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

This RC is difficult at first but gets better with several careful short flights. Do a little research and you will find that for the price it's overall a decent product. An airplane flying handbook at the local library isn't really necessary but understanding lift and basic physics are helpful before buying any RC airplane on the market. Flying into low wind to virtually none is best for this craft, along with plenty of open field and keep some scotch tape with you out in the parks. Let the plane land/glide itself - don't force it into even more banked turns.

It's a blast
By bobby h from Nashville on 1/16/2008
Pros:
Attractive Design, Challenging, Exciting, Fast
Best Uses:
Entertainment, Learning, Teens
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

Excellent plane! Have had a blast with it. Flying it can be challenging. When I have crashed it it was because of error on my part. From numerous reviews, it is aparent that people are having trouble launching the plane, often crashing it immediatly and damaging it. When launching, angle of attack is crucial. Launching into wind can cause the plane to nose up and stall, then crash straight down. Be CAREFUL! When the plane looks like it might go down, CUT THE POWER; the plane often glides in harmlessly. If damaged, do not use tape to repair; you'll be adding weight. Rather, use hot glue gun. I've broken wings, repaired with hot glue, broken them again, but always in a different spot. The repairs are actually stronger than the original foam. Do not cut off any portion of the wings; you'll lose lift. Be patient and enjoy.

Fun toy with careful handling
By Dad from Brooklyn on 12/31/2007
Pros:
Attractive Design, Easy to Use
Cons:
Fragile

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

My six year old flew it out of the box. True, it is fragile, but colored masking tape makes quick/easy repairs in the field. Best flown in almost no wind. Landings can be rough, and the styrofoam break easily, but everyone who watched us fly it in the park was impressed. Read the manual it tells you what to expect (including repairs to the foam).

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

My 9 year old son received this for his birthday. RC's are about the only toy he likes so he has had a lot of them and has good experience with their operation. Most kids however do not. So after sharing it with one friend and after just one crash the wings were broken in about 6 places. We keep hot glue and masking tape ready and we have been able to keep it going. He's only had it for 5 days and it looks like he has had it for years! It is a mess. Not that we expected any better- it is made of foam after all. My son just came in and informed me that one of the propellers is now not working either. Not worth even [$]

Absolute Piece of Fragile Junk
By Jet Jockey from Portland Oregon on 12/30/2007
Cons:
Flimsy
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

Plan on it breaking each time it crashes. After a half hour of use, it will require so much tape and bracing it will no longer fly. Total air time before it became unflyable was maybe 10 5 second flights. [$] for less than a minute of flight. Great.

Cons:
Slow battery charge
Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

After trying out the other Estes plane (red and black single-engine - model 4151?), I was hooked, though its rudder had come off in a crash. I purchased this one while looking for another single-engine, and it flies even better. I got some 6+ minute flights today, and I'm fairly new to RC planes. Even managed a wobbly barrel roll and some loop-the-loops. If you give it a decent lauch into the wind (tip: start the engines before before throwing), you'll get some good flights. It was at least 50ft up at one point. Got away once and ended up landing softly in a parking lot over 250yds away.

Make sure you charge well in between flights, apply scotch tape liberally to broken wings, cut engine in a hard dive, and you'll be set.

Simply awful

Pros:
NONE.
Cons:
Simply doesn't fly
Best Uses:
Paper weight
Describe Yourself:
11-year old
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

I went outside, and the wind was just about right to fly an RC plane(I have flown many before.)

I turned the controller and plane on, and then I threw the plane(which is apparantly what you're supposed to do with this plane). I attempted to make a turn, and instead the plane made a strange noise that sounded like somebody was opening a can of catfood, and then it hit the ground, where the wing promply snapped.

Do NOT buy this peice of junk.

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

All bad reviews must have come from people who has never flown R/C before. I agree - it takes a flight or two to get used to pulse control.
We are flying it daily still on orig taped wingtips in wind up to 15 MpH. Nothing breaks. Get some experience first with R/C or you'll be writing your bad review here soon.

This plane really moves and looks like a Star Wars fighter. Get some rc plane experience before trying this. Hints: Try in NO WIND, lift ailerons at wing tips UP 1/16" to counteract heavy nose, use fresh batteries and fully charge plane (motors are very powerful for plane this size-68 grams), pulse stick in turns(see instructions),take finger off stick and let plane land itself. A great performer for the $.

Difficult to Use, Low Quality, Terrible, Unappealing Design
Best Uses:
Landfill
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Estes-Cox Sky Rangers® Radio Control Airplane:

This thing is TERRIBLE.

The spacing between the motors is not enough to get the whole thing to turn.

When turning, it seems to increase the speed of one motor, and decrease the other. However, it is not done right, so what you wind up with instead of a nice turn is in fact a stall.

On top of that, the control is not proportional. The thing either tries to go into full turn, or it doesn't.

This is a terrible, terrible product. Do not buy it.
