All of the above is true. I find that MOST headset jacks fail. I tape the wire down. No mute button is annoying. And the caller ID can't be accesses during a call which is very annoying when you are talking to someone and need thier phone number. But overall, it's a great bargain. I'd gladly pay 2x as much for it with these few glitches fixed.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
As everyone else noted, the headphone jack fails constantly -- so the warranty is a must. And the lack of a MUTE feature is ridiculous. Radio Shack used to charge more for these types of headset phones and they were great. When they dropped the price, quality went out the window. For only pennies, the factory could reinforce the headset plug and make it last at least a year or so. But the design concept behind the product is a good one.

I work at home doing teleservicing and had not found a telephone/headset that was clear for all voices. This one is great!
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
The phone works great, but the plug on the headset consistantly fails. I have had several phones and all have had headset problems.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
THiS iS A GOOD PHONE ALTHOUGH THE EARPiECE DOES TEND TO BREAK SO U HAVE TO CONSTANTLY REPLACE iT.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
Other than the belt clip sometimes slipping off it's a very convenient phone that works well. Recommend it.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
After a year it developed a hum that got louder over a month to the point you could not use it. Great while it worked.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I only use these phones, they are at my work and my home. I agree with another review that the headset stops working after a bit. I request that we could buy only the headset. Other than tath, I'm saddened to hear they have been discontinued. I'd be interested to find stock of these phones and buy them all.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
Headset quits working after short use.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
No mute button? No thanks. This was supposed to be for my home office but it's going in the garbage and I'm buying a new one.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I love this phone! Great for my job!!! I am a cosmetologist.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
No Mute is a MAJOR dissatisfier. Especially since sales person assured me there was one!!
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
Great phone for the money! Reception is great and no more ear and neck strain! I did get the loud hum after 6 months and realized the power adapter failed. Radio shack replaced the power adapter for free. The only other problem I have is the clip will not stay on and I end up dropping the phone a lot! Good news is it still works great!
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I have owned 3 of these phones and I generally like what I have encountered. The plug at the head set seems to fail prematurely. Radio Shack's solution of making the entire head set feel like a brick is not the correct solution. I think this bad design change will lower their sales of this product. Just a better cable and improved better plug is the better solution. Clearly, from the range of opinions about this product there is a Quality Control problem with the manufacturing. Radio Shack Design Engineers should be actually READ the comments on this WEB site and they could actually improve the details of the design and manufacturing. In spite of all these problems I will buy and discard more of these phones. The Plantronics are only slightly better, they also fail.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
An uncomplicated hands-free that is a good value. Not a lot of features, but meets a basic need for a hands-free set. Why they didn't include a MUTE button, I'll never know. Also, the caller ID featurer only identifies callers when another call is in progress, i.e. it identifies the caller on call-waiting. Not so useful when you want to screen calls.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
Needs a Mute button badly. Keypad and unit are just about the right size - Plantronics unit is too tiny to use easily. You can prevent the Headset plug-in socket from wearing out prematurely by taking the stress off the socket. Tie the headset phone wire to the belt clip with a "twist-tie" or rubber band - this works very well and protects the cord if you accidentally drop the dialer unit.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
The only problem with the phone is after about 2 years the headphone plug has gone bad. Many other have complained about the same thing. Radio shack needs to do something about this.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
After only a couple years, this phone has developed a very loud hum that makes any conversation virtually impossible.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
If you don't need a HOLD or MUTE feature, this is a great phone. Does not have a MUTE or HOLD button, which makes it difficult to use for a business phone for customers service ech support.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
The clarity could be better. The sound is a bit like it is in a tunnel. I have carpal tunnel and holding the phone is very difficult so the hands free is heaven. Please fix the plug on the headset into the phone as it will make a fantastic difference and will help sell it better. I have recommended your phone to many that need "hands free". I will buy another even though the plug in is a problem.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
As another comment - headset plug has bad connection, squeals, needs holding in one critical position to work, otherwise good concept.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
have purchased 4-5 of these, more than half have had problems within one year. the most common problem is that the socket where the headphone plugs in goes bad, so caller cannot hear me talk. second problem has been a bad power adapter. problems show up after 6-18 months. suggest buying the cheaper version of the phone, and buying the warranty.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
The battery lasts - I can be on conference calls for 4 hours a day and not need to recharge for 2 days. The only thing that needs improvement is the clip: get rid of the hinge. Also the one with no caller ID works better than the one with caller ID.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
This phone has been a life saver, the size is great for slipping into a pocket and the clip is great too. It's just that the head set bails fast, it seems nobody makes a headset that lasts anything more than 2 months. Also, the main portion is very vulnerable to water. If you buy this get the in store warranty. It would be great if Radio Shack would make this one a little more durable.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
In the past 3 years I have purchased 4 of these phones which has last me anywhere form 6mths to 1 yr the last two 3 didn't even last 3 months and the headset has gone bad this is a wonderful product for busy moms but the headset goes way before you can even ruin the battery life. I had a purple one from radio shack also 3 years back that one lasted a lot longer. very dissappointed.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
Phone works OK except I find that the volume, even at max, does not increase enough...needs to have more amplification...
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
Many years ago I got one of the first cordless hands-free phones that radioShack made. That one was pretty good. This one is much smaller, costs a lot less, and has the clearest signal of any cordless phone I've ever had. You could say I'm very satisfied.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I'm handicapped, but this phone is great for me. I use it around the house when I'm not near my speaker phone.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I HAVE HAD THIS PHONE FOR YEAR'S AND LOVE IT! NO PROBLEMS AND I USE IT FOR HOUR'S EVERY DAY.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I received this phone as a gift. The first call the caller ID worked, and that was it. I exchanged the phone and still caller ID is not working. I know it is not a problem on my side as when I plug in my old phone, my caller ID works. I am returning phone again but do not plan to get this one again
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I work from home for a major IT corporation and I find that I cannot hear parties on the other end, especially when we are on a conference call with multiple callers, even when the volume is maxxed up. A mute button would have been a nice feature, but other than not hearing all the other parties, the range is not bad for a 900Mhz phone. I am considering moving up to a Plantronics even though they are more expensive, because hearing the technical information properly is critical to my job.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
This could actually be a terrific telephone if it weren't for the problem with the headset connection. I've had it for less than a year and I've had to get a new headset on four different occasions. Also, as someone mentioned before, it does not have a mute button and it's difficult to ascertain if you have any messages without being right on top of the unit. However, I too have a warranty and hands-free telephones are getting harder and harder to find so I will replace the headset yet again but I think this will be the last time.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I have been using head set phones for years. When I could no longer replace my G.E. phone I bought one from Radio Shack and have had it for at least 2 years now. I have had no trouble with my phone. I love being able to move around the house and take care of tasks with my hands free. It even works out of doors to feed my dog. However, I have not tested it to see how far I can go out of doors and have the phone still work. I guess I should try that one of these days. I might add that once a month I completely discharge my phone and then recharge it. It will hold a charge for at least 7 days this way. This keeps the memory in my battery able to keep a full charge. I'm still on the original battery. I would recommend this phone to anyone.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
the crapiest reception i've ever had on a hands free phone. suggest looking for something else
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
i bought this phone two years ago, and had the same problem other people have mentioned with the headset jack. i'd bought the warranty, though, which covered getting it replaced and replacing the headset. other than the headset issues, it's a great phone, it's clear, i can take it downstairs to the laundry room with no problems, and i LOVE having the headset. my headset is dying again, though, maybe 6 or 8 months after getting it fixed the first time, and i think i'm just going to replace the phone, given that a new headset only costs about $10 less than the phone while it's on sale.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
Very sad - great, great phone but I've had to return mine to have the socket for headset fixed. Too much static on the line and had to buy a new headset. Other than that - it's the greatest idea ever!
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
This product works great, as far as the static comment I have had no problem, static generally means interfearance from an outside source. And of course if you missuse and abuse any product you'll have to re-solder or fix something. I've had no problems with this phone for the 8 months I've had it.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I've returned this phone 3 times in a year. After using it for a while, it produces a lot of static on the line. It's too bad because I really love the phone and the benefits of hands-free use. I've only had the last one for several weeks and already having problems.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
For the money it's excellent value. Had a couple of problems though. The headset socket on phone broke & I needed to resolder the ground connection to fix. Also the metal pin holding the belt bracket kept falling out. Fixed with sticky tape! Would still recommend for the $.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
The phone is GREAT...no more neck aches after making phone calls all day! It's clear, easy to use, headset is light, earpiece is first class and the battery stays charged all day! I love the caller ID info and review options too. The only thing I miss is a speaker and voice/listening device on the phone itself - but I only miss this option when I'm on the run and don't have my headset on!
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I just bought my phone and it is great. The phone does not have a mute button, which makes it difficult when on a conference call. So I need to return it to find a phone with a mute button.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I have a white version that I bought over a year ago and paid alot more. It is the most popular phone in our household, so I am online to get another and am pleased that it is so inexpensive.
Comments about RadioShack Hands-Free 900MHz Headset Phone:
I purchased this phone mainly because I needed a cordless headset/phone for while I am working on my computer and taking care of my 1 yr old daughter. Because of the low price I wasnt expecting much but once I got it home and started using it I was amazed at the clear sound on both ends. Only drawback is that the actual phone part cannot be used without the headset. Would have been a 5 had it had that.
