Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This little radio does a pretty decent job of pulling in the strongest broadcasts in FM, MW, and SW. At night, I can receive most of the 50,000 Watt AM broadcasts from Chicago over to New York from my Location in North Carolina.
Keep in mind it is an ANALOG unit with a digital display. This means there are no presets and the radio won't remember the last station that it was tuned to when switching between bands. I plan on using it for travel and it has an alarm setting for morning wake up and a sleep timer.
The biggest weak points of the radio are the antenna and the tuner. The antenna works fine but it is spindly and can be bent or broken very easily and there is no easy way to replace a broken antenna on this unit without taking apart the radio.
The tuner is highly sensitive to touch and it takes a steady hand to tune on a station. The digital display will actually move 1 or 2 KHZ/MHZ just by giving the unit a little squeeze, although this has no affect on the reception.
Overall, this is a good radio to listen to basic strong broadcasts on FM/MW/SW. This is the purpose I believe this radio was designed for so if you are looking for higher performance you will need to plan on buying a unit in the $80 to $100 range just to get started.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I bought this radio a while ago so I could use it for camping, backpacking and such. The radio gets good reception, it is lightweight so it is portable, and the batteries last a long time. Other thing I like about it is that it comes with a carrying pouch and headphones. Some things I didn't like about it is that it doesn't have a display light so you can't use it at night.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Have used the Mini 300 on many trips; Europe, Asia and Alaska. For an inexpensive shortwave radio receiver, that could get crushed or left behind and be an expensive loss, it adequately receives SWBC stations to keep up with news. Have just bought my second one.

it hoever is a good radio~
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I have used this radio daily for approximately 3 months now. I like the build quality and the long battery life but not too much else about it.
FM reception is poor, and there are no station presets. The analog tuning is very quirky to say the least, and takes alot of getting used too. Reception of the big broadcasters on shortwave was quite adequate.
All things considered, at best I can only rate this radio as being a very average performer.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
very difficult to tune. analog and digital just don't go together i guess. would be a pretty good little radio otherwise. i just can't stand the tuning.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Not a bad radio for the money. feels durable except for the antenna; it bends easily. When outdoors the SW bands work very well. I live in Illinois and was able to receive International Chinese Radio, Radio Havana, and Some programs from Canada very well with little or no noise. When inside the radio easily picks up interference from every light and appliance in the house. AM/FM works well anywhere. Its a good radio for when I am outside working in the yard or walking. I also take it to work to keep on my desk. Very portable and lightweight (fits in pocket). Its definitely worth the [$].
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
A nice radio for emergencies. Cheaply priced for the features. The only trouble I found is that the stations drift slightly due to the analog tuning, the display is digital and accurate but still has a plain old analog tuner. Battery life is great. Radio seems well built and durable and well worth the [$] price tag.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
On the whole a excellent radio, with just some minor bugs. I have really enjoyed it.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
We bought this radio less than a year ago. It came with a defective antenna that the store replaced. Now the on-off button works sporadically, AM-FM receptive is poor and it is difficult to tune the radio. It is a piece of junk.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
overall this radio is quite nice. does everything great. however not a full spectrum SW radio and no sidebands. otherwise you will be amazed at what it does for the price. 4-stars. got mine at RS. enjoy. good buds. softcase. get a ge battery transmitter around 12-14 bucks plug it to this shortwave to your big radios wow dudes. worth the money you bet.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
The Grunding Mini 300 is useless as a short-wave radio and even gets poor reception on AM/FM.
If you are really interested in getting short-wave reception, this is definitely not the radio to buy.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Grundig is nearly the BEST name in Radios. The tuning is sensitive, but proves useful in the SW bands. Some may be confused by seeing other than '570, 580, 590, etc...'.With this, we get '570.0, 570.5, 571.0, 571.5, etc...' for AM, so its not like OTHER radios.Got one for my Father for his 80th Birthday, He LOVED it.Then got one for myself, my mom saw it, then she got one.Radio Shack ought to be paying me for selling these, they were an EXCELLENT radio for[$]
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Its all good. The best little radio money can buy. i just with it had an external antennae also... so i wont keep bending the other one from some frequent use. great at night for all the sw bands too.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
i like this product alot, its small, and loud and great audio. only real issue i have with it that the tuning is a little sensitive but its worth the [$]
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I have sleep apnea, so need a loud alarm when traveling. The radio amplitude can be adjusted so the alarm can be heard above the noises of Apnea equipment.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This radio is awsome in time of an emergency. There been times when we would loose power and to have the information at my finger tips is the best way to go.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I love this radio! I take it with me when my kids go swimming. It is great for listening to music, the ballgame, or whatever. The short wave bands come in pretty good for such a small radio. This radio was money well spent.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I like it. Want to try it with an external antenna set up.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Wow. I've been buying cheap radios or using radios integrated in other devices for years. I've not been happy. There is simply no substitute for a external steel antenna. The built-in speaker is painfully loud and surpisingly clear at high dbs. We used this for a 3 day weekend, about 24hrs total, 8 hours a day in 3-4 hour runs. We didn't change the batteries once. Reception of a signal from a 1w fm transmitter in a large concrete and steel venue with all kinds of dead spots and multi-path was flawless. It was a little on the bulky side compared to a compact mp3 player or unit with an internal antenna, but I was so happy with the performance and confident with its durability that I didn't mind at all.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Compact one with good battery life. FM and SW tested by me and found the band selection is not good, since slipping. i use in the house and on walking, travelling too.The Radioshak Frankfort will replace one soon with band selection since they are very particular qbout customer satisfaction.
i recommend the others to have one since this is cheaper and durable with battery saving.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I am very familiar with higher end SW radios - this 300 model was never intended to take the place of a more purpose built SW design - For what it was designed to do it does do exceptionally well. For [$] it is a true bargain.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Im from Australia. Bought my 300 whilst holidaying in the USA. As we say here if its good then its a 'bloody beaudy'
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Bought this to sit on my desk at work and it is a fantastic little companion. It doesnt take up much room and picks up fm in my area very well. I might have to get another to keep in my tackle box.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This radio is a nice radio to travel without taking a medium sized to big radio with you. Since walkmans don't have SW this radio is a great companion to take with you to listen to on the bus stop, and outside in the picnic areas and areas that do not allow a big shortwave radio. If you just bought a walkman but did not come with SW bands. Then this radio is for you.

Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This radio picks up a lot of channels at night.
I use a small alligator clip with 20 feet of speaker wire draped over a curtain rod of my apartment.
Seems to pick up everything with that long of an antenna.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Why buy a larger AM/FM/SW radio when this one does it all and you can take it anywhere? Attach a gator clip with a long wire to the antenna and get even better reception. Listen to the world for [$]The drawbacks are no AC plug for constant listeners and no belt clip for joggers and cyclers.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Great audio coming from such a small radio (I was worried about this) Not anymore :) I use it to pre-scan the SW bands...then tune my Big Radio, or just move around the house and yard while listening to the world (nice for news) and others view points. Many, many stations can be tuned in. Run you a wire out the window (to a tree or along the roof) 20 feet or more...bare 1 inch and wrap around the tip of your mini 300, then collapse the antenna. Now get ready!! LOL. The tuning KNOB is a little touchy...just take your time, it will get easier. Sure are a bunch of stations on that little knob!!
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This is an incredible little radio that has mind blowing sound and good separation when good headphones are used during FM listening. It is also very sensitive and picks up well on all bands- surprising for the fringe area in which I live. It does a pretty decent job on short wave bands. It is a little hard to tune and sounds thin through its internal speaker which I expected when I bought it. You would be hard pressed to find a better little radio for the money.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
best results for reception, radio shack sells a portable short wave antenna, 278-1374A and a seperate clip that fits on the radio antenna and the mini 300, picks up great short wave reception. The am & fm radio and clock with alarm are great features when you travel.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I use this radio daily at my desk to listen to FM at work. The tuning is very difficult to lock on to a specific frequency and drifts randomly. When listening to AM, you can cause the tuner to jump 50 KHZ simply by setting it on the table. The built in speaker is thin sounding, but typical of a radio this size. I actually plug mine into my desktop PC speakers, which improves sound tremendously. The build quality is solid, but I have a hard time getting over the extremely sensitive tuning knob.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This little guy has great reception on all bands. For the price, I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in shortwave radio. The channel knob can be tricky- as those above have discovered -but don't let that keep you from trying it out. It does skip some of my favorite shortwave frequencies, so check out the box for details if there are certain SW programs you like. You might find that your favorite stations are missing! (That's the only reason I give it 4 or 5 instead of 5 of 5!)
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I use it to quickly locate many weak SW stations, then pinpoint them on my larger shortwave radios (Grundig E1, PE400 Yacht Boy, E10). I often just continue listening on my 300 during hikes and walks. I live in the mountains at 9000ft so reception is excellent compared to other, more pricey shortwave receivers. Buying a 3rd one while they are still available.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Great selectivity and sensitivity.
Accurate tuning on all bands. No bleedover.
Frequencies are on the money on all bands.
Volume is loud,clear and crisp.
Antenna is long and extendable.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I bought this little radio with my first paycheck from my first job and it was worth every penny I paid for it. The FM reception isn't so great at all but I bought it for shortwave and MW, not FM. For MW the reception is pretty good. That is considering the size of the antenna (which is quite large compared to the size of the radio.) Shortwave comes in great. I live in the city with a lot of interference but it doesn't pick it up like my other radios. The only downfall I have with it is that it doesn't cover the full shortwave band. For what you get it's a great price and the case and earbuds are nice too. I definitely recommend it.

Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I was very surprised at how good this little radio is! It is very small but packs quite a punch! It has great sound with the speakers and phones both and very good reception, although the dial is kinda touchy until you get used to it. It has a tough plastic case and comes with a very nice carrying pouch, earplugs, and manual. It is highly portable. I am very pleased.

Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This is a well-designed personal receiver. The button controls may be a bit cumbersome, but that could be considered a pro rather than a con, to prevent accidental control activation during activities.
There is one definite con about this radio: The tuning is extremely sensitive: It takes a well-honed reflex to tune this radio correctly.
All in all, though, I really like this receiver. The sound quality is excellent given its small size, and the gain is terrific, even for some of the weakest shortwave and AM stations.

I knew what to expect and found it true- switching the analog band selector is delicate at best- hard to focus on a particular station

Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
There are many things one can criticize on this radio ... single heterodyne conversion (not so great image rejection), sloppy analogue tuning, no station presets or PLL tuning...but it has just enough pluses ... surprisingly good audio quality, decent sensitivity and selectivity, very good battery life, extreme portability and low cost...to be a great 'first radio' for a new world-band listener or a respectable travel unit for a more seasoned one. Outperforms more expensive units and has good post-purchase support, unlike many Chinese-made radios out there. Solid value for the price.

Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Impressive out of the box. Sharkskin water resistant body covering provides good grip and wear protection. Controls are simple - an extremely sensible design. Battery life is phenomenal but its biggest surprise was the "big" sound from it's small speaker. Nice bass, crisp treble, hi-fidelity for a unit so small. Reception ultra sensitive but the tuner is a bit coarse making it tough to zero in on some stations. Takes some finesse. It's small price, size and limited (yet important) features keep things simple. It does what it states it does exceptionally. Thus, I've judged it 5 stars accordingly. It's not a jack of all trades and won't wash the dishes so disregard overly critical reviews for it not having every feature in the book. It tunes in everything, puts you to sleep with the sleep timer and wakes you up with a simple alarm that takes only 5 seconds to set, and it does this many times on a single set of batteries. Buy it!

Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This is the second Mini 300 I have. The first is in my emergency kit. This one is in my laptop bag since I never want to be without a radio. Once I got over the tuning bugaboo, it was easy to love this radio. The reception is very good for a radio of this size. I don't expect to listen to Antarctica or anything, but hearing the major shortwave and AM broadcasters is exactly what I wanted.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Great Shortwave! I've been easily picking up Thailand, Australia, Sweden, Cuba, and Taiwan. Good AM, a tad subpar on FM. Battery life is great. I do a lot of work in the mountain forests, and it's great to crawl into the tent at night and check in with the world. BTW, I recommend SW to anyone. It's great to hear what's going on in the world more directly. I was in Haiti for 9-11, so I listened to BBC, Radio Netherlands and the Voice of America for news and got a much better international perspective on the attacks that a lot of folks got here.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Eton is modest-radio produces fine stereo sound with headphones and or amp speakers. This is not even noted on the box. Fine battery life-if have put my old tuner in storage.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I listen to the radio at work and have tried many..Im in a electronic enviornment so reception has always been a problem (AM) this Grundig is by far the best that I have used. The sound is crisp and the alarm is a plus (for those quick naps:-) )
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
The radio itself is good, effective and strong reception. FM sounds high in tone, AM sounds like you're sitting next to the DJ. My personal experience, while pulling out the antenna, the very last section came off and out, had to fix it. It's also in the trash. Both the frequency selector and tuning dial locked up for no reason and now some homeless squirrel is playing with it.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
For [$] and the size of a deck of cards I really had no expectation of receiving any shortwave stations. I needed it primarily for the clock radio feature, with the bonus of picking up some DX stations when the Solar Cycle improves.Out of the box it would not tune the AM nor SW bands without firmly squeezing the area around the slide switch. I have owned other Grundig radios and liked them, although the slide switches are usually the first to cause trouble. The lack of a 24 hour format is a negative in my view. Also, as other raters mentioned, the inability of holstering the radio with the ear buds connected is a negative for me.I will return it for something more capable.

Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
After years of not having listen to shortwave radio and figured the Internet has made DXing outdated by now, I was surprised that others are purchasing this radio. As I needed something to listen to while camping from from any city, I went for this. Not a bad little radio although I like others found tuning to a certain frequency very diffcult as you have to "play" with it to hit it just right, but with the tuning being a knob, it easily moves by itself or is brushed by hand. Which means you cannot use it in the holster (which has no room for the earpiece plugin). The clock should have come with a 24 hour option as it would be handy to determine what time the stations broadcast at UTC. But for a small travel radio, I really like it.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
A fairly good radio but two problems (turning off, without removing battery [may have to read the manual to resolve]) case could have been a little bigger, to allow cord to be plugged in and to hold, while listening to the radio, and to store "earbuds" with the radio not just for storing only. Otherwise, not bad.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Excellent reception & sound quality; band selection is a bit awkward due to switch location & marking. AM tuning is a bit sensitive. A great value, the included earbuds a nice touch.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
this radio is first rate all the way. a great sound for its size and a feel of real quality. i am 61 and the last time i had a radio i liked as much, i was 11. thanks.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
Great radio! Reception is good with antenna out. Good shortwave. Only problem is that it's kinda hard to tune in the frequency exactly.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
This is the best portable small-sized radio I have ever owned. Will buy another to give as a gift! Great reception on all bands-FM/AM/SW. Easy to use and you can take it anywhere. Only wish that it had an external plug-in AC adaptor source. Just works on batteries, but they last a long time.

Just purchased, wow, good quality, value very sensitve tuning. I ve owned many shortwaves this one is just amazing now I can DX any where and any time.

Probably the best portable, pocket sized SW receiver available, expecially for the price.
Comments about Grundig Grundig Mini 300 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio:
I like it a lot. Sound quality is excellent for such a small radio. I was surprised to find that the FM is stereo when using headphones. Tuning response is extremely sharp so you must turn the dial a very tiny amount to tune the station dead-on. A great value.
