Static with the Volume at Zero

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I bought this product for the digital FM receiver. I liked the fact that you could lock the stations. The first one I tried had static with the volume set at zero and the same static would always be above the station that you would be listening to. I thought I had a lemon so I went back and tried another one in the store and had the same problem, static. They were very nice and I had no problem returning it.

Returned product to store because earplugs supplied with unit would not fit or stay in my ears or my spouses ears. If you want to buy this unit you will need to provide separate earplugs or headphones to use this product.

This little lightweight radio has good reception and performance. Very easy to use and has good sound.

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I walk with radios a lot. Suburban setting.
The sensitivity is good (not super) on AM and FM.
The selectivity is very good (more channels).
The sound: very good (toss earphones, get better).
Control/Convenience: once you learn storage,super.
Construction is solid, battery fit superb.
I really like flicking around the channels w/this.
Wish the sensitivity were more, but it's not bad.

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I have owned 2 of these radios and they are worthless. I wanted a lockable digital AM/FM only, headphones & no speaker pocket radio suitable to carry while doing yard work, going on walks, etc. There are very few radio choices this basic on the market. The AM/FM & Power push buttons on top are of very poor quality. On my first radio, after 1 month of normal usage, the AM/FM button on top no longer worked. The radio would only receive FM.Thinking the first radio was just a lemon, I bought another. Within 1 month of normal usage, the top ON/OFF button went dead. Now I can't even turn the radio on. The poor design of the top push buttons makes this radio useless. When it worked and was pointed in the correct direction, the radio had decent AM reception. However, due to an inferior antenna design, turn one direction and reception is fine - but rotate the radio and the reception fades away.I remember when Radio Shack used to put out quality durable products. Not anymore. [$] is too much to pay for 1 month of use. Don't waste your time or money on this radio until it receives a complete redesign.

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

To mod this for use as a "Franks Box" for paranormal work, take the cover off. Remove the board. Bend over or remove the pin that is marked "mute". Then place the board back and place the cover back to. Turn it on and ask your paranormal question and wait for the answers on the radio.

Poor Sound Quality, Short Battery Life
Best Uses:
Daily Use, Home Use, Running, Travel
Describe Yourself:
Practical
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I bought this radio because it's small and light, easy to carry when I'm out exercising, and because I've been impressed by other Radio Shack products. Unfortunately, this radio doesn't measure up. The FM reception is poor. The battery life has been extremely short. And every time you change the batteries, you lose all of your station settings so it's necessary to go through the whole routine again. Very frustrating radio. I finally bought a simple little non-digital radio for ten bucks, and it's an incomparably better performer.

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

Loved the digital tuning and presets! Please note, there is no speaker grill on this radio--it does not have a speaker and can be used only with the headphones. I use it to travel on the bus to and from work and love it. It is very portable.

Not bad, FM stereo, but bad display
By Drive-In-FreakVerified Reviewer from Florida on 12/16/2007
Pros:
Powerful audio output, Stereo FM
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I notice that this page and the literature for this radio say nothing about the FM being in stereo..it is.

The digital display on mine lost the last digit..a minor problem.

A speaker would have been nice.

With good headphones that have the proper length cable on them (4 to 4 1/2 feet..it uses the headphone cord for an FM antenna) FM reception is quite good..as is the sound.

It has decent volume output. It has enough output to crank up the tunes nice and loud if you desire to do so..that's a rare thing in this day and age.

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I purchased the radio to listen to a football game while at my granddaughter's school dance team competition. The radio worked well. I was disappointed to find out that I could not use it at home without the earplugs. This is not stated on the packaging or instructions. I agree that there is a statement that earplugs are included to enable you to listen without disturbing others. I took this to be an option until I found out it was the only way to listen!

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I was looking for a simple radio that I could carry in my pocket, and liked the digital display. However, I was disappointed that the radio has no speaker; you must use the earphones. The product description should clearly state this restriction...but it doesn't.

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

I'm afraid I agree with a previous reviewer who did not love this radio; the reception is not very good -- lots of static. Had another Radio Shack pocket radio that was great; lost it, tried to order another one, and found it had been discontinued, so we got this one. It is NOT great. Will try another model.

By Edited by Moderator from Cottage Grove,OR on 4/4/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good performance, Good Value, Reliable

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

This is a great "knock-around". We have taken it camping and dropped it down a 150' slope. It was still on! I like the lock feature. Using it exercising, it produces enough volume and clarity at high or low volume that I use it almost every day. It has enough power to push accessory unamplified speakers to a radius of 25'. I LOVE IT and would not give up my last six months of use.

By Tracy K from Los Angeles, CA on 3/22/2006
Pros:
Easy to use

Comments about RadioShack Digital AM/FM Pocket Radio:

This radio is lightweight and easy to use, but it doesn't get very good reception. I have to keep turning it to try and keep it static free, and that only sort of helps. It's a nice idea, but the bad reception defeats the point.
