Comments about RadioShack 150W Power Inverter:

At best, this is a bad product.

The first one I bought started smoking before I plugged anything into it. When I returned it, the CSR told me, "Your laptop is too powerful." Uhh. right. My trusty, old, 1GHZ P3 is too powerful.

The second one didn't work at all.

They didn't have any others in stock and I missed an urgent deadline. Totally and completely my fault for not planning ahead. Radio Shack's bad product just made things worse.

While traveling, used the inverter to give my grandson breathing treatments. The breathing machine required only 80 watts. The inverter just stopped working - the fuse checked out okay.

Comments about RadioShack 150W Power Inverter:

Bought it to power two laptops during long car trips. A lot cheaper than buy plug in car chargers for each of the computers (PC and Mac). Kids used the laptops all the time to play games and watch DVDs. Need to be careful on the load: this is not a high amp inverter: did not try to load 150 W on it! Worked in US and Europe, That's obvious but worth mentioning because the unit is compact and is travel friendly.

Comments about RadioShack 150W Power Inverter:

ok i love this little inverter it is more than powerfull enough to power both my laptops as well as a 20in LCD display/tv, cable modem, cable box, wireless router all at the same time and for extended black outs it was even powerfull enough to runn the house fridge (( gotta save that ice cream :D )) so in the end this device works perfectly as a back up and primary power supply just dont over load it >< that fuse is a pain to replace.

junk and a half

Best Uses:

Comments about RadioShack 150W Power Inverter:

I got a Prowatt invertor some time ago. It works beautifully but I thought it would be handy to have a smaller one for small electronics. For starters, the output of this device is not clean enough for some devices to work. I've thrown away 2 of these in the last few month. Upon taking them apart (I am an electrician) I discovered the circuitry at work in these units would never pass normal electrical requirements. The wire, as well as other componants are way too small to safely handle the kind of current 150 watts demands. That combined with the lack of proper cooling (like metal fins connected directly to the board), It's no wonder they have such a short life.

Mine works as advertised
By Ostlandr from Upstate NY USA on 6/11/2008
Pros:
Works as advertised
Cons:
Fan motor bearing
Best Uses:
Travel
Describe Yourself:
Quality Oriented
Primary use:
Personal

Comments about RadioShack 150W Power Inverter:

I use this device to power both my laptop charger and cellphone charger rather than buying 12v adapters. No problems so far (6 months.)
From first use, the fan motor bearing has been extremely noisy, especially when the device is cold. Having "played" with small 12v electric motors as a youngster, I recognise the distinctive squeal of a bad bearing. Once the device warms up, the bearing stops squealing and the fan spins up to speed.
I suspect the failures are due to overheating due to failure of the cooling fan motor.

Comments about RadioShack 150W Power Inverter:

I plugged this thing in and tried to use my laptop. the mouse would lack greatly and instead of moving would jump around. futhermore I find that it has broken something in my laptop. my laptop charger would no longer charge my laptop unless I turned the laptop off and it got progressivly worse until that charger is useless. I bought a new one and within hours it is doing the same thing. I have never had any issues with it chargers on this laptop before.

Rated at 150W, cannot handle more than 150W. If you don't know how much power your device requires, don't plug it into an inverter of any size.
