My little boy got this for Christmas from his Papaw and it is so educational and fun for all children. I think my 11yr old girl has had as much fun with it as my little boy. If your child is a hands on, creative, and loves to learn this would be a great thing for them.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics 101 Snap-Kit:

My 12 yr old son thoroughly enjoyed this product, building 50 of the projects in the first few days of ownership. While the kit does not explain why a particular circuit works, it at least gives kids first-hand experience about electronic components and basic circuit operation, and the types of applications to which electronics can be applied. We were able to modify the circuits in the book to learn what happens when particualr components are changed. If you are going to add circuit theory with an electronics textbook, then I would recommend also buying a Digital Multi-Meter to go along with this kit so that you can make measurements at all the circuit nodes to confirm the theory.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics 101 Snap-Kit:

Unlike other reviewers, I have found this product very sturdy and it has provided hours and hours of educational fun for my son.As others have noted, however, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get replacement parts. That seems kind of counter-intuitive since a) this toy is made for and marketed to KIDS, b) kids being kids, things with small parts will get lost or break, and c) they could easily charge a dollar or two a piece and make a fortune and make their customers happy![...]

Comments about RadioShack Electronics 101 Snap-Kit:

Our 4 year old loves it, and he's definitely learning. For the first couple of weeks, he played with it every day. The projects in the book are easy for him to follow, and after a while, he learned to do his own.

He might have stayed interested longer, but the motor and one of the IC's stopped working in the first couple of weeks. Getting replacement parts is impossible. After several tries on the help line, we finally got to a voice mail and left a message ... still haven't heard back. Expected more for the price.

I would recommend, but with the caveat that it's a disposable toy.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics 101 Snap-Kit:

My son received this as a Christmas present. He built several projects, both with parents and by himself, and enjoyed the product. Unfortunately, the skinny wire in the battery holder broke, which make the unit worthless.
I attempted to get a replacement part via the 1800 number but even though I had the number from the manual the salesperson couldn't find it and tried to suggest something else. He gave me a parts/repair number and the menu does one of three things: 1. Sends you back to the same sales guy; 2. Sends you to a repair line that then routes you back to the same sales guy, or; 3. Kicks you out completely. I'm taking it back to the store.

The electric motor quit working after only a couple of hours. I called "The Shack" help line and after wading through the automated phone maze was finally connected to voice mail for someone who handles the east coast--too bad I live in Denver. Not recommending because of poor quality and customer service.

Love this product and how easy it is for my children to learn Basic electronics in such a fun way. However, while I was building a circuit with my son, the snap from the battery terminal broke off, I can attest that no excessive force was used during the process. I expected better quality from a [...]Product. I will be returning it to the store tomorrow for an exchange if possible.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics 101 Snap-Kit:

We just got back from Myrtle Beach where we visited the Kids Museum there. They had this same kit and it was awesome! My two boys (5/7) had to be pried out of that place. They are so interested in doing electrical experiments that I decided to check out radioshack, and lo and behold, here it is! This is a great kit, and fun for adults too! I may have to get more than one!

I bought one for my 5 year old son. He was entertained for maybe 30 minutes before he got bored plus he got the fan blade stuck in his hair in such a way that made it nearly impossible to get out. (lets just say now he has a buzz) But anyway the product is ok for youger children just keep them away from the fan blade.

By Scott O from Florida on 3/3/2006
Pros:
Easy to use, Good appearance, Good performance, Good Value

Comments about RadioShack Electronics 101 Snap-Kit:

I bought the 202 kit at a Radio Shack store ($50). I didn't see a place to submit a review for the 202, but this product is so great that I wanted to submit a glowing review. I am an electrical engineer, partly due to the electronic sets given to me growing up. This one is SO much easier to use than any set I had. Snap-snap-snap, and it's together. Also, it is easy to SEE how the circuits are wired. With some sets I had, you ended up with a rats nest of wires that made it hard to visualize how it was all connected. With this one, my son can come to me all excited about some circuit he built, and since I can easily SEE how it is connected, I can show him how to modify it to do even more.

Comments about RadioShack Electronics 101 Snap-Kit:

I gave this to my nieces for Christmas. The 10-year-old liked it. The 8-year-old absolutely loved it and may be an engineer-in-the-making. My only regret is that I didn't buy the bigger kit (model 202 or 303). There is no "add-on" kit so I'd recommend starting out with one of the bigger kits from the get-go.
